Help a Street Cat

Become a Foster Carer

Fostering

Foster homes, or 'FAT' in Portugal, provide temporary care for homeless cats until they find their forever homes.

Much of our work involves rescuing cats and kittens from vulnerable situations on the streets of Tavira. Depending on their needs, these cats may require short-term or long-term foster care as part of their journey from the street to adoption.  Fostering not only offers immediate shelter but also helps cats become socialized and accustomed to a home environment.

Become a foster carer

Our foster program covers all medical care. All you need to provide is lots of love. If you can’t supply your own pet care items, we’ll provide them for you. As a foster carer, you can choose which cat you’d like to foster. If the cat you’re fostering isn’t a good match, we’ll take them back and find one that better suits your home.

If you’re interested in making a difference and giving a street cat the chance of a home,

Kittens in foster Tavira

Being a cat’s foster carer is hard work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Many of the cats that come to me have endured so much: abandonment, hunger, extreme weather, loneliness, and even abuse.

They arrive frightened and scared, reacting to their past traumas. The early days can be challenging; they might be aggressive or hide away. But with love, attention, and the right conditions of shelter, food, and play, they usually recover.

For some cats and kittens, this phase is easier. In both cases, once they’re comfortable with people, a new journey begins: finding their forever home.

When we find the perfect match the cats are adopted.

It’s a wonderful feeling to be left with—a mission accomplished and a smile on your face.
